Conference on the Future of Monogamy and Nonmonogamy

This presentation is an analysis of the media coverage of the Ashley Madison hack and of the presence of this website in the public sphere more generally. This will address the commercialization of intimacy, digital practices of surveillance, and the (re)formulation of dominant notions of heteronormative coupledom in the media. I will use this case study to discuss broader changes in attitudes about monogamy and nonmonogamy in society. I  also include considerations of how Ashley Madison is re-branding themselves to get away from adultery and secrecy by presenting a new image of consensual nonmonogamy in their latest advertisements.
